Halloween is knocking at our door and it is no wonder that all the developers are coming out with horror-themed slots.
Thunderkick did it in their own style with Frog Grog, a humorous and slightly spooky 5 reel 23 payline slot. Get ready to step into the role of a witch and prepare the magical potion.
Superb Thunderkick visuals and soundtrack will add to the anticipation of the scariest night of the year and you will be glad to know that it does not lose its quality if played on mobile or tablet.
Similarly to Thunderkick’s previous slots we will not see Free Spins here, but the Dropping Symbols will make up for that, while the Multipliers and Mystery Game might help you make the magical potion for wins. It all depends on what you are looking for from a slot.
What We Love
Lately, we have seen many slots from Thunderkick and they all came without the Free Spins feature, or any other special feature. We assume that Thunderkick is trying to redesign the basic functionality of the game without relying on free play as all other typical slots do.
Frog Grog is no exception. Set in a cabin perfectly equipped for any kind of witchcraft, the reels are packed into a shelf containing potions, roses, butterflies, frogs and hearts. The theme is so brilliantly designed to the smallest detail, which engrossed us completely.

The most interesting thing about Frog Grog is that the main game revolves around the Dropping Symbols, which means that winning combos disappear and the new symbols appear in their place. This goes on until there are no winning combinations on the reels. In practice this works as a sort of a re-spin, which can count as a replacement for Free Spins.
An additional perk in the main game is the addition of multipliers that can go up to 7x. Each time you win, a multiplier climbs one step on the ladder and bolsters your payout. When there are no more winning combinations, the multiplier goes back to 1x and you have to hit the Spin button again.
For us the highlight of the game was definitely the Frog Burp feature. The Frog acts as the Wild of the game, but apart from that whenever it appears, the frog burps and sets the reel and the row on fire.
The symbols caught on fire disappear and new ones drop down. This was the highlight because the frog burping fire was hilarious and definitely the funniest part of the game.
What We Do Not Like
What should have been the main attraction, but failed, is the Mystery Game. It is a random game awarded on a non-winning spin. It takes all the low-paying symbols and leaves the high-paying symbols on the reels.
We saw no point in this feature, as it doesn’t actually increase your chances of payouts in any way, so, in the end, we were only annoyed by it.
Worth Playing?
While we love to spin a well-designed and amusing slot, it is not enough of a reason to invest in one. Thunderkick truly knows how to create an exciting theme that bursts with detailed animations and special sound effects and Frog Grog is definitely one of the shiniest examples, but that is not enough.
On one hand the Dropping Symbols can be an alternative for Free Spins, but there is nothing else to leave us hoping for a prize. Your balance will only benefit from the in-play wins and multipliers and we don’t think it will be enough.
