The soundtrack immediately gets you in the correct mood, since it resembles the ones used in old-school movies with maritime themes, while the graphics follow the story in a proper manner.

Play’n GO is a software development company based in Vaxjo, Sweden, that have been in the business for almost 20 years now, but in 2005 they started to work independently, creating more than 90 games so far.

Their reputation in the gaming industry is quite renowned, and their main field of work is the development of gaming platforms and online gambling products. Years of practice in the industry got them where they are now, creating first class entertainment in more than 30 different languages.

How To Play It

Sails of Gold is a five-reel, 10 payline slot. You can chose the number of paylines you want to play with and you can bet from 1 to 5 coins per line. Coin value is also adjustable, as you can go from $0.1 to $1.00.

In the betting settings you can also activate the Auto Play feature, which can go from 10 to 50 spins, while you can chose to stop the Auto Play if free spins are won. Play’n GO provided a set of rules and information, placed in the bottom right corner of the screen, which can enable a mere beginner to play the game instantly.

When talking about the symbols, you can find the Captain, an Ancient Sailboat, an Emblem, a Broach, a Compass and a Golden Ship, which only appears during the free spins. Meanwhile, playing cards with a compass behind them act as low value icons.

Special Features

The bearded Captain that holds the spyglass is the Wild symbol that substitutes all the symbols except the Scatter, which is presented by an Ancient Sailboat and can only appear in reels 1, 3, and 5 during the regular game and during free spins. A Golden Ship appears during the free spin feature and acts as a Wild, substituting all other symbols.

Free spins are activated with three Ancient Sailboats on the reels, and they will reward you with 10 free games. As mentioned, Golden Ship appears only in this feature and three of them will bring you ten more free spins.

Another interesting feature that this slot gives to players is the additional Gamble Round which is optional but can be played after every winning, providing you with a chance to multiply your winnings in the main game. This feature can be played five times in a row and all you need to do is guess the correct colour or the suit of the hidden card. If you are correct five times in a row, you will multiple your winnings by five in that round.

Maximum Payouts

The Captain symbol has the highest value in this slot and it can deliver 5,000 coins, if you land five of a kind. Second in value is the Emblem, which can bring you up to 1,000 coins for the same combination and even though there are no hefty payouts and winning multipliers in the bonus round, a good run of luck in the gamble round could award you with up to 250,000 coins.

Despite the fact that this game will not astonish you with amazing special effects and bombastic extra features, there is enough to keep you occupied. The gamble round keeps you in the game for the entire time, since you can really find bountiful riches while playing with those cards.

They kept things classy in the graphics and soundtrack department, staying in touch with the original idea, but the notion is they could have put an extra effort in replacing playing card symbols with authentic icons from Christopher Columbus times.
