Waters are calm, the sun is settling. A perfect setting for a voyage alongside one of the greatest mariners, explorers and fleet admirals ever to live in China – Zheng He.
Quite a stunning figure from early Ming dynasty has left a glorious legacy in the country’s culture and history so we reckon this brand new IGT slot game is quite a fitting choice to commemorate such a standout man.
It is a 5-reel, 88-payline game with the host of selectable features, bound to excite you throughout.
What We Love
We tend to have that feeling of “No, not again!” every time we get a Chinese game for a review. Still, many of the developers have adopted a different, highly commendable approach towards delivering oriental content and IGT did it too with the 1421 Voyages of Zheng He.
Namely, it still is a classic Chinese game, but with a theme dealing with an actual real-life character who ruled quite some time ago, but who was such a prominent figure. Such a choice gives great validity to the game and IGT deserve to be praised for their choice.
What they did with the graphics is equally impressive as all of the game’s details are made to commemorate and honour the great admiral. Reels dropped on a sail and game controls shaped like a boat is quite a clever solution, to be honest.
Talking about the features themselves will only take us deeper inside the game’s appeal. The 1421 Voyages of Zheng He comes with a selection of four – or two depending on the perspective – different bonus features which can yield great rewards for the players.
Firstly, once you land three bonus symbols there is a Pick-Me choice called Cup Feature which will have you finding a golden ball hidden under the three shuffling cups. There is a possible win of 102x your bet, so this is quite a rewarding feature.
Additionally, there is a selection between three types of Free Spins, all coming with different numbers of rounds and different value of random multipliers. There are 10, 15 and 20 free spins to be selected, with multipliers going from 1x, 2x, 3x, 5x and 8x.
What we do not like
Like we mentioned in the previous section of this news article, we are not big of the fans of the entire Chinese theme. In all honesty, the 1421 Voyages of Zheng He slot is not a classic oriental game, but it still breathes and oozes China with all of the elements involved, from the graphics to the audio.
Don’t’ get us wrong, we have nothing against the Chinese, quite the contrary. It is just that this subject was so heavily exploited in the past that we feel developers should dig a bit deeper within their creative pools to come up with something slightly more appealing and enticing.
Another aspect of the game we have a problem with is the affordability. The slot offers different choices when it comes to the number of paylines and bet value, but seeing that all 88 lines come at the maximum cost of $880 can be quite expensive and unaffordable even for the highest of high rollers.
The 1421 Voyages of Zheng He is a beautiful game. IGT have done well to come up with a nice tribute to an actual man from history, a man who left a legacy behind him and a man who is bound to attract plenty of players and gamers, who will use a spin or two to pay their respects and honour the great voyager.
This slot comes with neat graphics and engaging sounds, while the features speak for themselves. It is quite an amusing and eventful game you should definitely try out.
