Playtech has recently announced its upcoming titles for 2016 via its quite frankly underused, and thus underappreciated, YouTube channel. The new games include a number of interesting licenses, but the most interesting one is definitely The Flintstones.
The classic cartoon, that’s fifty six years old this year, is getting an online slot machine version at last. There is a previous Flintstones physical slot machine developed by WMS, but you probably have to pack a bag and head over to Vegas in order to play that (which, I have to admit, is a good idea even if you’re not planning on playing that specific slot machine). Thanks to Playtech, you’ll be able to enjoy this slot machine from the comfort of your living room couch.
Playtech has been developing software for online casinos for almost seventeen years now. Besides developing games, they also develop and distribute their own proprietary management software, IMS. Playtech provides turnkey solutions for casino operators, so a simple purchase to them should be enough to get every piece of software needed to set up and run a successful casino operation online.
What We Love
There isn’t that much info out there on this game, we regret to inform. Most of what we know derives exclusively from the scarce few seconds of (presumable) gameplay footage that was shown in the announcement trailer on YouTube.
We did see that his game will seemingly have one of the most exciting features of the Flintstones physical slot machine by WMS. During free spin rounds, a series of animations featuring different characters will sprinkle the reels with wild symbols, greatly increasing your chances to land more winning combinations.

We also saw a similar animation where the symbols being spread had question marks, on them, but we do not know exactly what feature we are seeing there; we don’t know what those symbols do, nor do we know in which context this feature would be triggered. Until we have the opportunity to get our hands on this game, or until Playtech releases more info, we have no real indication as to what this game will play like.
What We Do Not Like
There is one feature from the WMS slot which apparently won’t be in this game, which we would have loved to see included; this feature is stretching reels during free spins. In the WMS physical slot, all reels get taller, up to twice their size, during free spin rounds. This evidently improves your changes enormously. In the Playtech slot, this feature appears to be missing.
The second dislike we have also derives from the footage seen in the announcement trailer, but this is a much more concrete criticism. The quality of the graphics in the WMS physical slot is fantastic. The overall design, the animations, and the inclusion of footage from the Flintstones series were performed almost flawlessly.
It feels less like a branded product, and mlore ike something that fits right into the original series’ aesthetics. The Playtech slot looks, well, cheap. The design isn’t too appealing, and the animations look a bit crude. We do hope that Playtech will refine the visuals a bit before launch, though, since as is the game looks sub-par.
Worth Playing?
It is an interesting proposition, undoubtedly. However, given the lack of substantial information we have on this game, we cannot make a verdict in good conscience.
Playtech has handled licensed products well in the past, like the soon-to-be-retired Marvel slots, and the game does seem to take more than a few cues from the excellent WMS physical slot; so there’s ground for optimism.
