We have all heard the story of Robin Hood, the bandit in medieval England that took from the rich and gave it back to the people, the downtrodden peasants. Of course, had Robin Hood actually existed he would have certainly been very different from that; he’d been a nobleman stealing from whomever he could to bolster his riches, as outlaws usually were in medieval England.
This tale has seen many different adaptations and variations, including turning Robin into a wily Fox, like in the Disney cartoon. NextGen Gaming has taken a new spin on the tale, turning Robin into a bird. Get it? Robin, bird? Anyhow, the birdie Robin Hood and the merry band of merry birds will join you in your journey towards big wins and riches in this new 5×4 slot with 40 pay lines.
NextGen Gaming is a developer that focuses in acting as a third-party developer, working through partnership agreements with its clients. They boast about their “opportunity cost” vision, which makes them focus on the lost money from releasing a cheaper, inferior game, instead of trusting a third-party dev (like NextGen) with creating a higher-value title with better earnings prospects for operators. NextGen has been at it for almost a decade, and they certainly know what they’re doing.
What We Love
This game has a very pretty overall visual style, with high-quality 3D designs and a very jolly atmosphere through and through. The can look a bit childish at times, but that’s a minor gripe.
The special features are the best thing about this title. They may not seem exceedingly innovative, but they are certainly original and very well integrated with one another, providing a solid synergy and the feeling of a unified vision rather than a haphazardly put together game.
The most interesting feature is Super Bet. This is an additional bet (additional to the line bet) that you place through a setting on the right hand side of the screen. There are three levels: Super Bet off, worth 0 coins; Level 1, worth 30 coins; and Level 2, worth 80 coins. The levels modify the game’s wild symbol, which is unique in its own right.

The Robin Hood Arrow feature lets the Robin Hood symbol, the game’s wild symbol, turn adjacent symbols into other wild symbols. This is where Super Bet comes into play. With Super Bet off, only the Princess symbols may be turned into wilds by the Robin Hood Arrow feature. With Super Bet Level 1, the Princess, Owl and Pouch symbols can be turned. With Super Bet Level 2, the Target, Quiver and Poster symbols can be turned, as well as the ones from the previous two levels.
The other special feature of note is the Free Games feature. This is triggered by landing three or more Castle symbols along the same pay line. You can get between 15 and 25 free spins, depending on the number of Castle symbols you get on the combination. This feature can be retriggered, and the Robin Hood Arrow will be available during Free Games.
What We Do Not Like
We found the game to be quite enjoyable, overall. The theme can look a bit childish, certainly, but it’s not as bad as in other games.
This game may feel a bit flat in regard of special features, it is no extravaganza of features, but they do complement each other very well, so that’s not much of an issue, either.
Worth Playing?
This game is definitely worth a try, since it is very well-rounded. If you’re lucky enough to find it tied to a progressive slot, don’t think twice and jump in.
