Cartoons and childhood themes are popular with slot developers lately, so now we see NetEnt announcing their newest release under the title Fairytale Legends: Red Riding Hood.
It seems as the well-known Swedish developer is preparing a whole new series of slots, but this is yet to be seen.
The old story of little girl in the red cape going through the deep dark wood to visit her grandma will be available to play in October. Until then you can read on to see what to expect in this 5 reel and 20 payline fairy tale bursting with bonuses, stacked symbols, and random awards.
What We Love
The best treat in Red Riding Hood’s basket is definitely the Bonus round triggered by the three chests of treasure. As many developers do lately, NetEnt included three variants of the bonus feature: Free Spins, Coin Win and Beware of the Wolf Bonus.
We particularly liked the last one as it takes you to a whole new game where Red Riding Hood needs to find the top prize and that is x100 multiplier, which can be doubled if she steps on the right track. Even if she doesn’t there are plenty of smaller multipliers along the way that will make the trip to Grandma’s house worthwhile.
The other two options are also valuable. For example, you get 10 Free Spins and a chance to earn up to 50 more with the help of treasure chests that hold additional Free Spins. Moreover, in this round you can benefit from Stacked Wilds that appear to increase your chances of a hefty payout.
The third option holds a cash prize which is not too interesting but we, surely, wouldn’t turn it down.
The main game also holds hidden treasures granted by the Fairy who shows up to upgrade your symbols, or add sticky wilds to your reels with the magic of her wand.
What We Do Not Like
First of all, we are not quite thrilled with the choice of the theme. Aside from the fact that the fairy tale itself makes little sense to us, choosing children’s stories as a theme for slots somehow seems off track. Simply, we don’t see many players rushing to hit the spin button at the sight of cartoonish fairies and little girls.
Secondly, the slot is stuffed with bonuses. While we always expect to see some nice additions, in this case it is confusing. Perhaps the Fairy was too much.
The first part of the slot title suggests that Red Riding Hood is the first in the series of Fairytale Legends, though there is no official information about it. Basing the slot around fairy tales does have some allure, knowing that it will bring back some nostalgia of childhood and the fact that almost everyone has their own favourite fairy tale.
However, we can’t say that we liked this particular one. High-quality graphics aside, it is simply too childlike. As for the features, there are bonuses exciting enough to keep you spinning with the addition of random Fairy awards.
On the other hand at times it may seem a tad complicated, so we wouldn’t recommend it to players who enjoy traditional slot machines.
